Going shopping for camera accessories can seem overwhelming with the sheer number of accessories a available. The essential ones are the batteries and the memory card. Focusing on the memory card, you should bear in mind the megapixel capability of your camera. You may need a card with a very large capacity if you own an 8 or 9 megapixel camera. It should be noted, that most cameras have settings which can adjust the quality of the images by choosing the megapixel number. As high numbers are mainly useful for pictures that are going to be greatly enlarged, you may want to set your camera to shoot pictures with a lower number of megapixels for regular shots.
