When training your puppy during the socialization phase, it is good to acquaint your dog with as many situations and animals as possible. A dog can live to the age of 10 or more and you cannot see into the future. For example, though you might not have a cat and perhaps even hate cats, you should still socialize your dog with a friendly cat. Maybe you will have a cat at some time or get a new partner who loves cats.
Bridges, public transport, and elevators are a similar issue. If you live in the town, your dog will automatically get used to children playing, traffic, and buses but, if this is not the case, take the dog to the town with you during its socialization phase so that it can experience these things.
In country surroundings, your dog will become familiar with cattle and other farm animals as a matter of course, but in other cases you can take the dog to a children’s farm to make acquaintance with the animals there.
By using the socialization phase to the full you can prevent long-term problems. Do not overdo it though, because too many experiences all at once are too much for a young puppy.
