Collecting easels as a genuine hobbyist

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

My Dad offered me so me of his rare easels when he moved away. I loved collecting easels when I was ten years old and owned nearly twenty different kinds. A couple of them were made in the 16th century, others made in the middle 18th century. They were not very well preserved and I had to fix a ton of scratches and gaps in the wood to make sure I could even paint on the surfaces. My Dad often helped me with his background in pottery and wood preservation. We always worked together in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

A mysterious journey

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

If you are desperate to find audio books online that are about the Edwardian obsession with the paranormal, are based in London, and have spirits, ghosts, and criminal activities – then you are in luck.

I’ve been listening to the Table Rappers series of stories for the past few months, and they are most entertaining. The best bit for me is there’s no message about spiritualism in there, nothing that promotes, and nothing that speaks it down. It’s completely neutral, letting the individual characters themselves express their own views on what is true and what is not. Great fun and thoroughly entertaining.

There are not many books that I would read again (and again) because once you read it once you really are fulfilled by that so its time to move on, don’t you agree?

My library is packed full of books that I’ve purchased over the years, the vast majority of which are read one time and then shelved to collect dust.

However when it comes to books by charlaine harris, well, thats a different story entirely. All of this novelists books on my shelves had not had time to collect dust as I can’t help picking them up every few months for another read!

Learning About a Rag Dung

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

My husband and I attended our sons middle school music concert last night.  We always enjoy going to these and always take lots of pictures as well as a video.  someday we will pull these videos out and show them to our grandchildren.  My son was anxious for us to see the production since he was playing an instrument he had never played before.  He would be playing the Rag Dung.  He explained that this is A Tibetan instrument that was typically used in rituals and ceremonies.  We were really impressed with the production and enjoyed hearing how well our son played this unique instrument.

Smoky Mountain Sunrise at Oconaluftee

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

To get to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park most all of the tourists arrive through Gatlinburg, Tennessee or Cherokee, North Carolina.  Each side of the park has its own unique characteristics, and it is quite feasible to become overwhelmed by the beauty of one view and lose all sense of time. I find it very fascinating how each side has its own special look and flavor. The Newfound Gap Road gives you access to numerous of the definitive settings of the Smokies like Balsom Point, Laurel Falls, and Cades Cove.  The Oconaluftee Valley Overlook is the ideal location for picture takers that are wanting to capture a stunning Smoky Mountain sunrise shot.

Ireland: Home of the Bodhran Drum

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

When we came to visit Ireland with the whole family, I fell in love at first sight with the place, the people and most especially their culture which was somehow preserved over the years. As we were shopping in their malls, there was this store wherein the cultural musical instruments of Ireland were being sold. We immediately went inside and man, the whole of the store really depicted what was ancient Ireland. On one corner, I saw this drum named bodhran drum because I was fascinated with its peculiar shape. One man demonstrated how to play the bodhran drum and it produces quality sound. They said that the material used is of goat skin. Others were mere synthetic materials.

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

My son who is  very well to do decided to take his wife on a vacation to Houston, Texas.  Most normal people just bring a camera, but my son decided to hire a Houston Photographer.  I thought wow that must be nice.  He’s the kind of person that has to have the best of everything. The photographer followed them everywhere they went and took pictures.   They went and seen everything you could see in Houston and has the pictures to prove it.  We must have spent a couple hours just looking a the pictures.  There was one picture of my son that I just loved.  He gave it to me as a surprise in a very nice frame.

My Kid Wants to Learn to Play the Piano

Monday, February 16th, 2009

As I was playing the piano the other day, my toddler asked me if I could teach him how to. It made me happy that he showed interest in my hobby, and I would definitely be glad to teach him. However, I am not that good in playing the piano either. I just play for fun.

The good thing is that there are many piano teaching softwares available that I could choose from. They can be found both online and in my favorite bookstores. With the help of these softwares, I could easily teach my son how to play the piano.

The real love tarot takes work

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Most of us, initially, can only give ourselves a tiny part of the dedication we can give our job bosses.  That’s the way the world wires us, but until we get over it, success will be very hard to achieve.  It is true that love tarot takes work  And based on that, the process goes a little something like this for the small percentage of beginners that eventually do taste the major spoils. After 2-3 years, finally understand that self pitywon’t make much of a difference and realize that you have all the information and tools to be successful already, but just didn’t understand what it really tookand how to use what you have.
