My father took great pride in the local store he started when he was in his early twenties. Dad retired when he was sixty five, and turned the business over to me. He had always focused on running a high-quality store and never considered expanding or opening other stores. I planned to keep Dad’s quality standards and grow the business by hiring a public relations agency. With their help we mapped out a careful campaign and, within six months, opened a second shop. Two years later Dad admitted that he was proud of our store’s growth and me. His words meant much more to me than the increased profits we were seeing.
