When you fail to pay your annual IRS bill a lien is placed on your property by the IRS. To get a Federal Tax Lien Release you have to pay off the amount in full. This amount includes the tax bill plus penalties and interest.
After you have contacted the IRS and received the amount of the payoff you must satisfy your obligation. After the total amount has been met you can submit a Request for Release of Federal Tax Lien to the IRS. It should take 30 days for release. Should you neglect to file the lien request, the lien may stay in place for at least 10 years. Remember, it is not the obligation of the Federal Government to release a Federal Tax Lien. It is up to you.
