Pat and I have been having a blast lately getting ready for our first gig. We’ve been playing together for a long time, but haven’t played in public as just a duo yet. Working up new songs is always exciting, and especially when you have to arrange them for guitar and mandolin. My favorite thing to do is take an old Soul record, like something from Sam and Dave, and work it up as an acoustic thing. The trick is to get to the essence of the hook, so that wherever you take it from there people will still recognize it.
He wants to do “Ice, Ice Baby” but I draw the line some place. LOL
