If you are learning to play an instrument, you know that scales are important, but what you might not know is that scales are about the most important thing that you can practice. If you want to be able to solo well, you have to be able to move up and down the scale quickly and effortlessly. So that you can chain together notes in such a way that creates beautiful music. Even if you are planning a Selmer Mark VI saxophone, it doesn’t matter. What matters is how much you’ve practiced, and how well you can play. Learning your scales is the first part of playing awesome.
